REYHANLI, TURKISH-SYRIAN BORDER, TURKEY
2018-2019

Project Title:
Karam Park

Project Description:
Situated in Reyhani, Turkey, right at the border with Syria, Karam Park is a community space for gathering and play. The project, initiated and funded by Karam Foundation,
serves both the displaced Syrian community and the Turkish host community, offering neutral ground for both communities to interact, gather, communicate, and play.

The design leverages modularity to create a robust, effi cient, yet fi exible system to which play elements and space can be attached or detached with ease. Over time,
children will defi ne the space they play in. As they grow older, they’ll alter the gathering spaces, and as the climate changes. they’ll rearrange the shading systems. The space will grow with the community, within a framework that ensures complete access and sensitivity to the immediate surroundings.
